Farmers/herdsmen crisis increases hunger in my constituency , says Nasarawa Lawmaker.

A member representing Udege/Loko constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Okpoku  has urged farmers, herdsmen and other Nigerians to co-exist peacefully in order to boost food production and accelerate the economic development of the country.


Okpoku (APC), who is the chairman, House committee on Work stated Sunday in an interview with newsmen in Nasarawa, Nasarawa local government area of the state

He said that there is the need for the farmers and herdsmen to embrace one another considering the importance of peace and unity to the socio-economic development of any society.

According to him, “Obviously, one cannot run away from the fact that issue of kidnapping, robbery, theft, farmers/herdsmen crisis among other security challenges had affected our lives and the socio-economic development of the country negatively.

“Of course that have increased the issue of hunger in my constituency as many food  and cash crops are nowhere to be found in my constituency because of the problem of  farmers and herdsmen.

“We thank Governor.Tanko Almakura, police, other security agencies and my people for curtailing the security challenges facing our area and for the restoration of peace as peace is the necessary requirement for the development of any society,” he said.  

Okpoku has also called on the farmers and herdsmen to respect the right of each other, advising them to always channel their grievances to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.


He commended his constituents for their continued support and promised to do more project in order to impact positively on their lives and the lives of others.


“Everybody can testify to what I have done for the people of my constituency and I will do more in order to better on their standard of living,” he added.


Opkoku urged the people of the area and Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and not to engage in acts capable of tarnishing their image and the image of the country at large.


He also implored the people to be security conscious and to report any suspicious movement of any persons or groups to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.


The Lawmaker urged the people of his constituency and state to continue to support President Mohammed Buhari and Gvo.Almakura administration to enable them succeed in the task ahead of them.
