Economic diversification: Nasarawa Assembly Makes Case for Early Distribution of Fertilizers

The Nasarawa state House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the state government to ensure early and timely distribution of fertilizers and others farm inputs at affordable rate to farmers in order to boost food production in the state in 2017 and beyond.
 Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, the speaker of the house made the call on Friday after Mr. Abubakar Kana, the chairman house committee on Agriculture raised the issue under the matter of public importance during the house proceedings in Lafia.
Balarabe-Abdullahi commended Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for his efforts in the agricultural sector which had impacted positively on the lives of farmers and the people of the state and called for more concerted efforts in that direction.
He said that timely distribution of fertilizers at affordable rate to farmers in the state would not only boost food production but would also fight hunger, poverty as well as boosting the revenue base of the state and the country at large.
“First and formost, we are commending Honourable Abubakar Kana, the chairman, house committee on Agriculture for raises this issue on the need for the state government to ensure early distribution of fertilizers and other farming inputs to farmers in the state.

  “As we are all aware that no society can live comfortably, survive without agriculture, agriculture is the major source of live hood of every family, nation and its importance cannot be overemphasized to the development of any society.

 “Agriculture does not only provide food, fights poverty, hunger, unemployment but it also improve on the revenue base of the country, improve on the standard of living as well as the socio-economic development of the country.
“It is in view of this, we are passing a resolution urging the state government to double its efforts in the procurement of fertilizers and other farming inputs to farmers at affordable rate so as to have hope of bumper harvest in the 2017 and beyond,”he said.
Balarabe-Abdullahi directed the clerk to the house to communicate the house resolution to Gov.Almakura for necessary action.
 The Speaker assured the people of the state of the assembly readiness to continue to enact laws and resolutions that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.
  Earlier, Kana, who represent Kokona West constituency, said that timely distribution of fertilizers and others farming inputs at affordable rate to farmers in the state would boost food production, fight poverty, unemployment as well as boosting the socio-economic development of the state.
 He added that farmers need tractors, fertilizers, seeds among other farming inputs to improve on agricultural production, hence the need for him to raise the issue under the matter of public importance.
 The house unanimously makes a case for timely distribution of fertilizers to farmers at affordable rate in the state.
