Assembly Moves to End Farmers/Herdsmen Crisis in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday said that it would pass a bill for a law to make provision for the control, prohibit and to restrict grazing of animals in urban centres, schools and other designated areas to curtail crisis between herdsmen, farmers and other people.

 Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, the speaker of the House announced this on Tuesday after the sponsor of the bill, Mr.Daniel ogazi, the house Deputy Majority leader presented the bill for second reading during the house proceedings in Lafia.
 Balarabe-Abdullahi said that the bill would not only tackle herdsmen/farmers crisis but would also reduce road accident caused by animals moving freely without been controlled by the herdsmen. 

According to him, “the bill would also curtail attitudes of residents who form the habit of rearing animals such as pigs, sheeps, goats, cows among other domestic animals especially along high ways as well as herdsmen who graze in urban centres, schools areas among others.

 “We believe that this bill if passed will not only reduce farmers/herdsmen crisis but will also curtail unnecessary accident which at time may result to death due to uncontrolled of animals especially in city centres and  rural areas.

 “This bill if passed will also bring peace and harmonious co-existence among the people of the diverse ethnic, religious and political groups in the state,” he said.
Balarabe-Abdullahi reinstated the assembly’s commitment to continue to enact laws and pass resolutions that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.
 The speaker, however, directed the house standing committee on Agriculture to work on the bill for its passage into law.

The house unanimously commended the sponsor of the bill, Mr.Daniel Ogazi (APC-Kokona East) for initiated the bill, adding that the bill would promote peaceful co-existence in the state.
